Sympathy = "I really feel sorry for you,oh sorry i gotta go check my email!"

Empathy = "I understand you man.. and idk how i can make this any better for you but i'll try my best."

The funny thing is that you can see people sympathizing with almost everything around the world and YET for some reason they don't really do anything about it other than liking facebook pages.

Sympathy is nothing more than feeling "sorry" for others because its in your instincts to care for others however empathy is something when you truly try your best to make the situation better.
