faith....is a gift?
As a recovering Catholic..Ive heard apologists say thay faith is a gift from God...but that God only gives the gift of faith to the humble and to people who ask God for it....and Ive also heard them say that people recieve the gift of faith when they are/get baptized.....and Ive also heard the apologists say that faith and belief isca choice.....so many frikin' contradictions.....

RE: faith....is a gift?
The whole shittaree is made up. You can research when hell was invented, when (time-wise) priests were henceforth to remain celibate (complete with a major land grab by the RCC for their homes, and having to leave their wives), when confession was instituted, when even the Trinity of the RCC was hammered out, which took CENTURIES! Sometimes I wish there really was a hell, and the people who pulled this shit should be in it.
Faith is a gift like STDs are a gift. |

Well, you know what they say, Fake it 'till you make it. If you keep pretending that you believe, then eventually God will grant you the gift of real belief.

I suppose god's alleged love is never a factor in this, he would rather you fry in hell than reveal himself. Faith doesn't have to be granted if a god would simply reveal himself, QED. ![]() Gods derive their power from post-hoc rationalizations. -The Inquisition Using the supernatural to explain events in your life is a failure of the intellect to comprehend the world around you. -The Inquisition |

Delusion, gullibility, and wishful thinking aren't gifts.

RE: faith....is a gift?
That's kind of a moot point on the part of the apologist. If God was real, everything that can or could be experienced by humans would be a "gift" since God is the creator and master of all things. He is responsible for absolutly everything since he could either stop, modify it or make it happen at his leisure. In other words, the theological arguments on the origin of faith are tautological and fundamentally pointless.
Freedom is servitude to justice and intellectual honesty. |

Faith could be a "gift", sure, just shitty one like another pair of socks for Christmas.
