finasial support to delveloping countries waste of money?
Okay so
i´m walking down in the park when wouldn´t you know it some guys from the
Evangelical Lutheran Church in Denmark´s(where I live) relief aid Is out there, asking for people to donate what
amounts to maybe 5 or 10$ a month to help the poor people in Africa and other Third
World countries.

While it is a noble act to give to those in need I can´t help but to think it’s
a waste of money.

Now before anyone accuses me of being racist, not wanting to help starving
children and all of those things just hear me out.

My main problem with relief aid, development aid and all those other financials
supports out there is that things never bloody CHANGE!!

I mean
how many millions if not billions have we poured down there over the years? And
yet things remain the same show me a year where there hasn´t been starving
children, a drought, famine, war and so on and so forth in some third world
country and often it’s the same ones as the year before and the year before
that and the year before that.

What is all the money being sent down there being used on, fancy clothes or
what?

Now as
said before while I’m all for helping countries in need I think we have the
right to expect results from our hard earned money.

And the
way things are portrayed in the news around the world things aren´t exactly
getting better no matter how much money we´re sending down there.

All the while European countries such as Italy Greece are close to financial bankruptcy,
something that will have a much more profound effect on all of us should it
actually happen, then starving children down in Africa would.

So i´m asking might all this relief aid financial support for underdeveloped countries
and the lack of improvement despite that, might that in the end be a waste of
money? Should we leave countries such as Africa and other so-called undeveloped
countries to their own devices maybe give them one final amount of money and
basically say that´s it no more money from us you either sink or swim we don´t
care.

We have
been giving you money for all these years and nothing has happened, either you
get your act together with these money or you don´t in which chase you must
take the consequences with no help from the western world at all.

Now it
may sound cynical or cold, but honestly i´m beginning to get sick and tired of
all these people asking for me to donate some of my hard earned money to some
country in the far east I know nothing of, all the while there are several hundred
if not thousands of unemployed people walking around here who are unable to
find a job.

Might it not be better to focus on helping them instead of some child down in
Africa?

Well this is certainly going to get a wide variety of opinions I should think.

Well, as cold as it sounds, it does make some sense. It would be more efficient, and it would stop suffering on a very large scale if breeding restrictions would be imposed. I have mentioned this before, and people immediate point out how immoral that would be. In which I return with pointing out that mass sterilization seems slightly better than mass starvation and children dying.

I hate to say it, but things don't change because people don't want them to...particularly the people running the charities. Why? Simply they, their friends, and their family are making a fortune running the charity.

There are a lot of charity scams in the US, many religious and many not.

I remember a few decades back the US went to Mexico to offer aid for starving people. In order to help they taught them to better methods of farming corn.
It worked, and their corn production skyrocketed. They went back about a decade later, and found the problem didn't improve at all. The mexican people, having more food, decided it was a good idea to have more kids. The population increased and nothing was solved.

So what can you do?
A lot of the charities are scams, and even if you offer legitimate help it doesn't ever seem to work.

RE: finasial support to delveloping countries waste of money?
Often our 'charity' takes the form of dumping our excess on Third World countries rather than figuring out what they really need most and giving them that. Our food aid can actually cause more harm than good because the US and Europe subsidize farming so heavily that Developing World farmers can't compete with our prices and on top of that, we send them our excess food for free. How is a farmer supposed to make a decent living in an environment like that?

In Mali, we finally learned to provide mosquito netting and provide it to local nurses to sell to mothers for about a quarter each. When we provided them for free, they weren't valued and used for all kinds of things besides protecting children from Malaria mosquitoes. A private group was hired by the charity to figure out how to do a better job of getting the nets into the hands of mothers who would use them as intended. They did some studies and the plan to sell them for a quarter through nurses based on those studies has been very successful.

Finding out what is really needed instead of assuming we know: some humility, would make aid much more effective.
