RE: first mothers day without mom
It's never a good thing, to lose a family member, although I try to think of the things they brought to my life and improved it for the better.

I'm obscenely lucky, and have lost very few members of my family so far, but the ones I have lost I've been very close to. My great-nan was one of those, and she taught me so much about life/reading/television and films, and everything. We used to get together during the school holidays and watch Laurel & Hardy on TV, and it's stuff like that, that I remember the most about her.

It is very hard to try to work grief into some sort of positive, but my thought is that they wouldn't want you to be sad. Why not try to find something that you did together or talked about doing, or even think of something they liked that you didn't really get on board with, and do that in their memory each year?
