On a serious note, I think it is generally believed that, as FC mentions, that the biblical G of E was located within the Tigris-Euphrates River Valley. Whether they find the G of E or not, it's still not really proof of anything. All mythical stories have some element of truth to them. It's not surprising that the biblical writers could have chosen an area that actually existed to write Adam and Eve.

On Yale's religion series with biblical scholar Christine Hayes, she mentions that the fruit may have actually been a pomegranate and as you say, not an apple. The apple idea was added in later--Genesis makes no mention of an apple, instead calls it "fruit."
