I don't know, man. These motherfuckers wanted a useless food forum, and right away, there it was. Same thing with the stupid sports forum. Might as well just face it, muffs. Nobody likes you. Angel

RE: history subforum?
Okie dokey, here we go.

I am particularly interested in the contact period of the New World and maritime history in the Caribbean.

Just four miles off of the island I live on is Alligator Lighthouse, a 130 foot tall steel structure built in 1873 (three years before Custer and The Little Big Horn, I just love that fact, don't know why).

The light is named after the USS Alligator, a schooner launched in 1820, one of the very first war ships commissioned to fight piracy along the Atlantic seaboard. She ran aground on this reef while escorting liberated US ships that were being held on the north coast of Cuba by pirates.

I often go out there to photograph the myriads of fish that congregate under the structure and swim over the ballast pile that remains of the ship.

Sadly the Federal government hasn't allocated the money necessary for the upkeep of this lighthouse and the others that run along the Florida Keys and they are slowly deteriorating. Private efforts have been made to raise money for this but so far this effort has fallen short. I fear we will lose these great, historical structures soon.

I've refrained from adding history stuff because there was no real place for it.

See, THIS is exactly what I'm talking about.
I'm the exact same, I have many topics I'd love to discuss but I don't want to because there's no place for it and I don't want to post it in this that or the other or the coffee house because it'll get buried and not taken seriously.

No.. A simply solution would simply be creating the sub forum then spamming history threads...

You joke, but I seriously wonder if the only reason this hasn't been done is because I suggested it (or at least made the thread).

Just make the damn sub forum.

RE: history subforum?
I have resurrected a history thread I started about two years ago. Those interested in history should feel free to post stuff.

As long as the history thread won't be spammed with ancient aliens, I'll say yes

Where did you get that from?. in the beginning there was one big board.

After which, I would suggest as many recent, history based threads as possible should be moved into the new sub-forum to begin it's colonization and production.

Seems like a fairly simple solution to this whole mess.

Here's some history for ya.

In the beginning....there was no fur.
But unto the void did allmighty Alf say "let there be cats"! And so did pussy come into existenz for all.

Not only could I probably find a thread to post that in as "history", but I don't know if it needs it's own sub!

Dear god, how small was this forum to warrant that? That must have been a huge clutterfuck.

This was waaaaaaaaay back long before I joined. At one point the number of bots outnumbered the amount of actual users. Stark and a few others made it their mission to clear up the forum, Along came deep who gave them some weapons the forum was cleared up and the rest is history Tongue

Agreed,

Also, when you have to twist a topic to fit a category (like politic or philosophy) you risk excluding several perspectives from the outset. History is much broader than any of the current subforums (at least in the heavy stuff section).

I propose that when we create history threads in the other sections we label the threads "History: [the topic you wanna discuss]". To make a point and try to set the category a bit apart from the more casual coffee.
