is communism a religion?
Communism is a political theory derived from Carl Marx. However, in practice, this is just another totalitarian system. Though it is not a religion (I know, duh!), it acts mostly like one.

For example, belief in 'Communist Manifesto'/'holy book', prosecution of anti-communist and counterrevolutionary elements/'jihad or crusades or holy war'. Both the system have hero worshiping (Che/Prometheus/Hercules/Krishna/Muhammad) and a central father figure (pope/khalifa/chairman like Mao, Lenin, ho chi min, Castro, Kim Jung-Ill). Infallible doctrine ten commandments/Das Capital

I want to know your opinion. I want to be more clear so I could write something. Please help me out.

RE: is communism a religion?
You are wrong. Your analogies are flawed.

The belief in the communist manifesto is warranted. It is a coherent analysis of societies and their economies with a clear conclusion, written by a single person that we know existed. It refers to events in history that actually took place. It is reasonable to come to the same conclusion as Marx.
...unlike any holy book.

Che and other "communist heros" are not worshipped. Noone attributes them with superhuman abilities, noone claims they are not humans.

And this is just to begin with.

@TheUnholy

Communism was something that SU wanted to build. Marxism-leninism on the other hand was religion. Put "marxism-leninism as religion" through search page and you will find some threads on the subject.

RE: is communism a religion?
Your argument does relly on a composition fallacy. Karl Marx isn't the only the communist author, neither is he the first. He is the most well known and the one who coined the name communism, but the idea of such system predates even capitalism. All forms of communism aren't totalitarian. There are anarcho-communist for example. Your argument seems to conflate a dictarial regime with an omnipresent cult of personnality with communism which is completly unwarranted. It also seems to conflate extreme form of socialism with communism.

RE: is communism a religion?
No, communism is not a religion.

However, some of its assumptions are what I (personally) term as theological and based on magical wishful thinking about what humans ought to be like rather than what they are like. There are also pernicious theological assumptions underlying capitalism.

Calling communism or other political philosophies religions is incorrect and, in a way, it's prejudiced. It's a backdoor way of disrespecting the people who support communism (or capitalism, etc.), by asserting they're irrational, blinkered followers. (And some are, but that's true of adherents of just about every big set of ideas.)

Communism is an economic doctrine. Nothing more, nothing less.

RE: is communism a religion?
Communism is a political ideology that has never succeeded at significant scale without devolving into totalitarianism. Communism is not religion, socialism, or anything else but itself, despite some narrow aspects that are similar to those other things.
