Ciarozza seems close to using all the sounded out elements and the associated language elements... that might be a good place to start with a search for similar names, at least.

Do you know about when your mom's family came here, Bows?

Whoa- it just hit me: can you get Auntie to write the name out on paper?

Or is it like my family where everything is "the big secret". Dodgy

Maybe it's Cierri. Pronounced Chee-AIR-ree. Lovely name.

The only solution seems to go back in time. Quick, to the DeLorean! Big Grin

Or you could go to Ancestry.com and see what you can get out from there, but it seems to require payment if you want stuff like DNA tracing, although I never used it myself.

RE: need Italian spelling of a name I heard.
I had forgotten about a cousin, her mom had passed a few years before my mom (our mothers were sisters). I sent her message on facebook asking if she knew anything, this was the response I got.

Quote:mom mentioned that it was probably changed from something that sounded like gee-air-ree......that's what she has told us anyways. I don't know for sure. all I know is that they were from Castle del mar on the coast of sicily. also that granpa cherry did run numbers for someone...lol.

we know where, what he did, but no officer, I don't know his name....yep, sounds like my family for certain. Angel

OK, then let's try a different kind of approach. You mentioned they came from Sicily. Do you remember or know anything more specific, like the region or a village? If you can get that it would be much easier, you can search for all the families that were in that region/village, or you can ask some local priest via email, all these old villages keep very old records of people in their churches.

Gather more data for us, we'll keep digging.
