one hell of a conundrum
Jesus was supposed to be the descendant of king David
Joseph was a descendant of king David
Mary was not and was a virgin
Joseph was not Jesus` father
so how was Jesus descended from King David?

one hell of a conundrum

Assume nothing, Question everything
Assumptions build barriers, Questions break them down

This is a vestigial problem. Yeshuia ben Josef did claim descent from David (assuming both of them are real people) through his father and never made the man god son of a virgin claims himself that was tacked on much later.

Close, but not quite. The followers of the Christ, most likely in their efforts to legitimize their Christ, attached their stories of him to the Jewish conception of their Messiah. With that came the requirement of descent from the Davidic line. Then the whole 'son of god' was tacked on in an effort to compete with other popular pagan mystery religions centered around other legendary 'sons of god'. It was a fad.

Stop and think about that for a second.

Having a religion built around a 'son of god' was a fad even back then. For fuck's sake... Frusty

I have no problem with fads... especially if it implies Justin Bieber could somehow be crucified. Dodgy

This is all based on an assumption, that there actually was a Yeshua ben Josef and that he was crucified by the Romans. Based on the fact that crucifixion was a reserved punishment for acts of sedition and rebellion against the Roman empire we know the crime of Yeshua was open rebellion. The theory I subscribe to is that Yeshua and John the baptist wanted to remake the kingdom with Yeshua as king (the descendant of David) and John as high priest (the descendant of Aaron) In this context much of what Yeshua did makes sense.
