In fact - you're more likely to get results from your desk lamp...

The lamp can be visibly observed, unlike some deities we won't mention.....

I count being visible or observable as a large factor in my belief system.

The difference between prayer and masturbation - is when a guy is through masturbating - he has something to show for his efforts.

That gives a funny visual in my head, I could picture someone praying fervently to a lamp and they construct the EXACT same excuses for answered and unanswered prayers that they do when they pray to god.

4 Reasons The Lamp May Not Have Answered Your Prayer

Sometimes we want things that aren't good for us, the lamp knows better than us.

The lamp has answered, we just don't like the answer.

Sometimes we're just not listening to that still, small hum of the lamp.

Sometimes the lamp says yes, but later.

RE: prayer debunked
The fact that outcomes from prayer were indistinguishable from random happenstance had a lot to do with me leaving the faith.

It didn't help that the typical statements about prayer, as mentioned by other posters above (god might answer yes, no or not now), amounts to saying that outcomes will be indistinguishable from random happenstance.

Believe me, there's nothing like what it feels like to ask god for something that's entirely appropriate and that you really need, or else people are going to suffer horribly and die ... and nothing but crickets and suffering and dying results.

Check out my now-defunct atheism blog. It's just a blog, no ads, no revenue, no gods.

This is from Marshall Brain. His book: How "God" works, is an awesome book. Everyone should read it. Especially Christians.

Remember, just because you want something to be true, doesn't make it true. Yes, even if you have faith.

I get excellent results from praying to my massage chair. If I say "Hmm, I need a pick me up for my sore back" and put my fate in the hands of said chair, a healing miracle occurs. Every time.

I worship that chair, best invention ever made. Tongue
