software devopment jobs in other countries
My husband came across this article

http://itflow.biz/10-best-countries-fordevelopers/

I told him except for #5, I'm up for any of them.

So, how do find - where to look- for international software devolopment jobs for Americans?

sources anyone?

Does that mean you might be moving, or is this just hypothetical? Just wondering Tongue

yes.

I am always ready to explore, and right now we are renting (sold our house in October), we only see my sister about once a year now, see the inlaws even less, we really don't have anything tying us to where we are now except for husbands job and kids in school. Which their school experience would probably increase with a move.

its something we have always thought about, but havent actually explored because we always had things like houses or my parents or some other anchor.

but now we don't have those worries. So if something interesting presented itself we would probably consider.

If you move to Germany then you become a woman of leisure as you are married. Your husband can go on Tax class 3 which means he gets taxed a lot less, you will then be on Tax class 5 which means you get taxed so much that it's not worth working, which won't be a problem anyway unless you are fluent in German or have specialist skills in demand.

Software engineering is particularly male dominated in Germany. There is a shortage of software engineers but only for jobs which demand German language skills. If you can only speak English then you need to compete with all the other software engineers non-speakers that moved to the country to fill the shortage but there are still jobs there. There are plenty of English speaking work environments though, especially with the larger corporations.

The quality of life is good in Germany. And Switzeland too. Switzeland is the one place in the world that Germans move to for a better quality of life.

We just moved back from Germany yesterday. I was working there as a software engineer. I'm currently in England now about to move back to Scotland for at least 18 months. We've left all our belongings in Germany though because we intend to move back again.

toytowngermany.com has a forum for English speaking expats in Germany but if you ask a question that you can find the answer to through searching then they'll be quite arsey. It has a lot of information though.

We were considering New Zealand ourselves but then they started chucking immigrants even if they had lived there for 20 odd years and had created a life there.

As Americans you will still have to fill in tax statements every year. I don't know the specifics though. And being outside of the European Union you need to make sure that your husband's qualifications are recognised.

I would also love to move.

I had started looking at other countries last year, but very few "developed" countries outside of the US recognize CRNAs (or enjoy the same autonomy as in the US) and only use anesthesiologists. There are a few Caribbean countries that I find appealing, but I don't know if my skin can handle the sun! Several years ago I was outside in Jamaica at 0800 without sunscreen for maybe 15 minutes to walk to breakfast, and got sunburned. Blush
