Because it makes better news. Same reason a cop unjustified shooting is more common news than cops doing good things.

Also I'm not saying those do not happen more often than Rev's story but they do happen and I think they should get more light because there are responsible heroic people out there who do use their firearms correctly.

No it's really not the good guy with a gun is a myth with no numbers to back it up. Owning a gun only increases you chance of dying a gun related death.
