[split] Coming Out And Ready To Crawl Back In.

With their mindset, you are screwed.

A couple years ago, my cousin posted bible verses on facebook against being gay. I had the audacity to argue with her, and suddenly became satan incarnate, I guess.

Within minutes, a bunch of her christian friends were online, comforting her, and reminding her that these are the "end times", the bible warns about, and I was declared a scoffer. blah, blah, blah

So, our two-way conversation wound up being about 15 to 1.

I heard the next day...........

That she had to take anxiety meds after that, and was up all night, so upset.
Please note that her bashing someone else's lifestyle was acceptable. Rolleyes

A Christian that states that homosexuality is wrong is not bashing someone's lifestyle anymore than you are bashing someone's lifestyle when you say murder is wrong. The Christian who thinks this gives reasons for thinking so.

The issue is whether or not homosexuality is a sin. If it is then it is whether you like it or not. If it is not then it is not.

One can argue against homosexuality without even appealing to religious beliefs but by simply appealing to the effects such a lifestyle has on one who practices it.

Except they single out homosexuality and ignore all the other rules from the Bible that they don't care about, like not eating shrimp or wearing clothes, woven from two different kinds of thread or their choice of curtains.

So yes, they are bashing someone's lifestyle and cherry picking parts of the Bible in order to justify their personal prejudices.

If nothing else you can bash the Christian for being a hypocrite.

Homosexuality is condemned in BOTH testaments so your point is moot.

That's not even an answer.

Why does homosexuality being condemned in both testaments make my point moot that Christians are hypocrites in condemning homosexuality because they are cherry picking rules based on their own prejudice?

Except that it's not a lifestyle. It's who they are, it's not a choice. God made them that way, if you will. If there is a subculture that goes a little overboard, it's because people like you forced them to live on the fringe of society. Thankfully, marriage is becoming an option and people are able to lead normal lives. Homosexuality is normal and occurs throughout nature and you are the problem, not homosexuals. If you are not one, that is fine, just don't force your opinion on others.

Why should we care what the bible says?
We don't believe it to be particularly good or wise or entertaining.
It contains lots of bad advice, and contradictory advice.
It never condemns slavery. It promotes the subjugation of women.

In short, it is a very good example of bronze age understanding and 'wisdom' to be avoided.

you argue that Christians say homosexuality is wrong and do not say that wearing clothes woven of two different materials is wrong. you say that both are in the old testament and thus Christians are cherry picking when they say one is binding and the other is not.

the prohibition against wearing clothes woven of two different materials was a ceremonial law for the Theocratic nation of Israel and thus is no where found in the New testament.

The prohibition against homosexuality was not a ceremonial law. It was a moral law and is thus binding at all times in all places for all people and this is reflected in THE NEW TESTAMENT unlike the ceremonial laws.

Thus a Christian is neither a hypocrite or cherry picking when they claim homosexuality is still prohibited and certain ceremonial laws are not.

You are just finding whatever excuse you can. There are plenty of stupid teachings in the New Testament that Christians do not follow. A quick google brings up this

http://backyardskeptics.com/wordpress/ne...to-ignore/

Not that any of it is relevant anyway because the Bible is supposed to be divinely inspired by God, who of course, does not exist.

RE: Coming Out And Ready To Crawl Back In.
Jeremy, how is this helping the OP?

Please be a little more discriminating as to what threads you invade. You are not on topic, you are not being helpful, you don't belong in this thread. Go start a thread about homosexuality if you want to talk about it, don't walk all over someone who came here for help. You are being a bad example of a benevolent christian.

first link not working. second contains statements that are false. no where does the new testament prohibit marriage or say the wealthy will be condemned for example.

but some Christians do indeed fail to do some of the things that the new testament says they should do.

so what? how does this show that homosexuality is not a sin? it does'nt. its a red herring.
