Even if you could trust everyone with a gun, it is still ultimately teaching kids to live in a police state. I think this bullshit attitude of "arming everyone" is a cure is fucking Orwellian.

Odd -- I always thought that only the government having guns was Orwellian....

I don't recall anyone in 1984 owning a gun....
That grumpy allegory for 1948 didn't really have to address that issue.

For the record, I'm all for having armed automated drones patrolling the halls once they have adequate AI to accurately identify a threat.

And we'll happily take the "false positives" if overall security is increased?

As long as they look cool and give orders via scary robot voices.

Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.
Science is not a subject, but a method.

Yeah like that, but just for schools.

The only way to get guns off some people is to pry it from their cold dead hands.

They are not willing to sacrifice their own "right" to guns for the safety of the public.

After all, their position is "Why me? I'm safe with guns, I've never hurt anyone, I'd be the first to rush in and save everybody"

I'm enjoying and taking in everyone's opinions . however I do have to say that so far no one has convinced me that arming teachers with guns is a good solution. It creates more problems then it addresses.

I mean, since it's claimed that disarmament would just mean that the murderers would find other weapons like knives to do their dirty work, why not arm all teachers with machetes? It'll certainly get the brats to sit up in class...

Well, they once used to have switch sticks and leather straps. Hard to believe now-a-days.
