Well, that sounds a bit far-fetched.

It's just how their society is right now. I don't think it's such an alarming situation, this is a country of at least a hundred million people.

WTF, is that assertion based on anything, or did they just pull that out of their asses?

If we came from dust, then why is there still dust?

They won't go extinct, but their economy is going to go down the shitter since they won't have a sufficiently employed youthful workforce to maintain their soon-to-be majority aging retiree population.

This is VERY far fetched.

Birth rates are sooooo unpredictable that no serious person who knows what he or she is talking about would make a prediction based on them that goes beyond 20 years.

I didn't say anything particularly wrong with the analysis. The prediction of extinction seems a bit far-fetched, but it's seems the reporters are aware of this as well. But it does seem troubling.

While I think it's difficult to predict population growth, as a result of contraception, and other factors, I don't think this would apply to declining populations, where the factors appear to be more static, bar some sort of unlikely cultural revolution, reverting back to some traditional values, a return to reverence for family life, etc..
