And what happens when a teen spots believing in something that is a "higher power?"

Wow, that's baaaaaaaaaaad science. A lot of question-begging and defining your outcomes by the preconditions.

Essentially it says, "Kiddos raised in the dominant social-inclusion group (cultural faith) of their region, and thereby have social acceptance and societal structure defined for them, are happier and less likely to become depressed, abuse drugs, or engage in dangerous behaviors. Therefore God."

It's as stupid as the people who looked at the "gay teens are significantly more likely to become depressed and/or commit suicide", and concluded that there was something wrong with the gay teens, rather than realizing the powerful need of (especially teens) to be socially accepted and embraced by society as they struggle to define themselves in adult terms, and the danger of rejection on these developing personalities.

"Theology made no provision for evolution. The biblical authors had missed the most important revelation of all! Could it be that they were not really privy to the thoughts of God?" - E. O. Wilson

Exactly. It isn't saying anything at all about whether the belief is true or not. At most it shows that being part of a community is beneficial. Well, duh.

Exactly!! Blows me away that people present such claptrap as (semi-)scientific or based on honest research.

Guess they gotta eat, and they know the gullible will believe whatever looks believable on the surface.

If this were indeed true, then why do the most religious states have the highest teen pregnancy? Consider

Wow that makes sense. If someone was in desperate need of social acceptance , which by the way is fucking retarded and half the problem , then why in the fuck would they claim to be gay in order for that acceptance when homosexuality is a minority? It is through selfish delusional perceptions of reality that people feel as I'd they need acceptance from other like minded individuals. Selfish is the problem. People act as if it isn't their fault that they have no sense of self. Did you ever stop to think that it could have something to do with being daughter off as far as society as a whole is concerned. You self centered know it all hypocrite types fucking kill me.

I see your reading comprehension is still just as bad. People aren't claiming to be gay to get social acceptance, people are gay and feel ostracized because they are so often despised and rejected by the people around them.

Quote:It is through selfish delusional perceptions of reality that people feel as I'd they need acceptance from other like minded individuals. Selfish is the problem.

Looking for acceptance by peers is a normal part of being a member of a social species. Calling it selfish is an incredibly warped way of looking at it.

Quote:People act as if it isn't their fault that they have no sense of self.

Appreciating being an accepted member of society doesn't mean you have no sense of self. This is not an all-or-nothing dichotomy. That sort of black and white thinking is not good for you. Nuance is nothing to fear.

I have no idea what it means to be "daughter off" or what you could have meant that was auto-corrected to that. As for being self-centered, nothing beats believing you have a personal revelation from and a personal relationship with the creator of the universe.
