RE: what is lifes purpose without god?
"What is life's purpose without god?" Begs the question, assuming life has a purpose. Dawkins recently addressed this in his most recent appearance on Australian QandA show. (here's a link to that show and the point where the audience asks for a purpose http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tD1QHO_AV...age#t=751s ) Dawkins points out that some questions simply are not deserving an answer, and this is one of them.

This is also part of the debate in which the moderator keeps rescuing Pell, (and why later, that next week Krauss said he didn't like moderators). The "voting mechanism" was an example of "argumentum ad populum", and is meaningless. Around 30:00 pell begins to make a COMPLETE fool of himself, and this is good for a laugh. Instead of addressing questions, he just keeps saying "that's a good question".

Pell keeps making assertions, which he is never challenged on. For example around 17:00 he attempts to assert that the Jews were the "chosen people", (of course they would CALL THEMSELVES that, because it self-justifies their spurious claim to the "promised land"), and attempts to say that somehow they stand "unique" in human history. There is NOTHING unique. The usual contribution they are credited for, (monotheism), is false. We know where that came from, and they were NOT monotheists. He credits the advances in Western Civilization to Christians, (even though St. Paul told slaves to be slaves, etc etc). Even while slapping themselves on the back ("we are the chosen people"), Pell condemns the Nazi's, (who were just another example of THAT). He asserts they were "special" as can be seen "by the fruits of the civilization". There was NOTHING unique or "special" contributed by that civilization, and indeed all the major parts, (we know from Comparative Literature and Archaeology), were appropriated from surrounding cultures.

The question "why", is, (as stated above), part of man's natural "pattern seeking". Seeking patterns where there are none, is not productive.

Pell attempts to reassert the old concept of "nothingness", and using humor with the uneducated audience, makes it "sound" like a riduculous question. In FACT, in this universe, "nothingness" is NOT OBSERVED. It's a pleasant Philosophical construct.

At 33:00 he credits the Yahweh god as, (along with some vague incorrect reference to "the Greek"s), as being unique. We KNOW where "Yahweh" came from, and it's NOT where Pell says, (it arose LONG before the Moses reference), and he was NOT an element of monotheism, (Yahweh had a wife).

So Pell's cat is going to heaven ? (!) Alrighty then. .... "principle of life" .. bla bla. The follow up discussion with Kraus is FAR more interesting.

I leave them with the "conflict of interest" question. "Which of the two would loose their job, if he changed his mind ?"
If Pell did not conform, in every way, 100%, he would not be what he is. He is NOT free. He has chosen the easy way. He is "occupationally obligated".
What's sad is that Dawkins has so many "missed opportunities", and the moderator lets Pell go on. You can tell he, (Dawkins) is tired of playing ball with fools.
