why is one culturally insensitive and the other not{ black face v.s. yamanba style}
before I start this i have to say. m not trying to be trolling he but I am generally curious about how something can be two steps of form cultural acceptable. the things I am comparing today are black face used to portray blacks as evil by racist in another error and ethe yamanba or ganguro styles by the Japanese. in which ganguro style being the emulation of black people in america. below are thre links to where you could compare the styles but as you look at them notice there similarities.

I always understood ganguro as being the imitation of a model who was heavily tanned and used bright contrasting make-up and had dyed her hair platinum blonde. The tradition of blackface in america goes back to the vaudeville acts that treated blacks as sub-human and inferior so it it what the blackface represents rather than the blackface itself.

My definition was based on something I saw like almost 20 years ago so I could be mistaken(it was a piece of pop culture and not exactly a scholarly work)

However if we use your definition to ask the question I suppose it would be due to the lack of underlying hostility. It seems to be closer to the hip-hop youth culture in america than the black face from the 1920's.

you got a point there but then my question is why as a white male I csn't go out in ganguro style and yes I might do it one day....

because....
1. I am one crazy otaku.
2. as male I would love to be able to pull off the sexiness and cutness of a Japanneese girl.
and finally
3. i think it looks awesome

Actually I think you would be able to pull it off without anyone screaming racism (well unless they mean against asians) Most people I know who see ganguro style just think it has to do with anime not black urbane culture.

Your entire premise is flawed. One is race-based, the other is not.

Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.
Science is not a subject, but a method.
