woo hoo I got a promotion
So I get my summons for jury duty and I look at it and it is Grand Jury duty. These are the juries who listen to the DA's case and decide whether or not it warrants indictment. Every Tuesday for the next 4 months. Problem is the courthouse is 30 miles away and I don't drive. It's my civic duty to respond to the summons so I'll have to figure out how to get there by public transportation. I think it might be quite interesting. But I will not be allowed to share it.

I don't drive either, I've always had to say no to jury summons. It seems like a cool thing to do but I've always wondered how they would react if they found out I'm atheist. I'd be honest about it of course and if I ever had to swear on the Bible for a legal reason I'd refuse and insist on swearing on the constitution or something similar.

Maybe there's a Trump casino resort nearby, and they need to put you up for a month.

I don't know how it works in your neck of the woods , but I've been summoned once as a witness, and once as a possible juror and both times they asked me for the distance and method of travel to the courthouse and cut me a cheque (mailed to me within 30ish days ) for the "estimated costs" for my travel (whether by bus car or train etc...)

Also as a witness I was not asked to swear on the bible, only to swear to tell the truth under penalty of law or some such.

I got summoned for Jury Duty this year by a county which I do not reside in. I replied to the letter the same day I received it. No response. I tried calling them - nothing. Sent an e-mail. Nothing. So - day of Jury Duty, I show up, it's the next county over. Go to speak with the clerk. "Oh, I told my assistant to call you and tell you that you're dismissed". Fucking annoyed.

Anyhow, good luck with the court case. Could be interesting, and if not, I agree that it's your duty, especially as a "sane" person, to judge fairly, and objectively. Also, who the fuck doesn't drive in America. I mean, it's America. Didn't you get the fucking memo? Starting to re-think my "sane" comment. Tongue

Don't worry about it, Girlyman, Grand Jury duty is easy. All you have to do is rubberstamp whatever the prosecutor wants to do to begin with... it's all the Grand Jury system ever seems to do, anymore.

You might even get a chance to let a cop completely off the hook for shooting an unarmed black (or otherwise "icky") citizen!

Understood.

But can you drop some hints about how it might affect her election chances.

Must have been a very convincing No because I am pretty sure you need a very good reason not to do it or you have to
